For those of us not native to New York City (although we swear that we’re honorary New Yorkers), so much of what we think we know about The Big Apple has been shaped by what we’ve seen of it in a variety of TV shows and films. So what better way to tour the city than by visiting the filming locations of some of these legendary series and movies?
We are grateful to have been given a set of complimentary tickets to join the NYC TV and Movie Tour with On Location Tours on the last day of our recent NYC trip. We had previously bought tickets for and had a blast during their Gossip Girl Tour on our 2016 visit. We still have beautiful memories of being “SPOTTED!” (having our pictures taken) on the Met steps in 2016, just like Manhattan’s elite – Blair and Serena! The only things we were missing were our yoghurt and headbands.
So why should you jump on an On Location Tours on your next NYC trip? Well, we have three very solid reasons:
1. You don’t have to pay full price!
How wonderful that you know us – your local NYC plugs! As you should know, we’re big believers in affordable travel and part of that means saving your coins wherever and however you can – including not paying full price for things! So, get 10% off your On Location Tour by booking here (NB: the price you’ll see will already have the discount applied).
If you’re into shows such as Sex & The City, Gossip Girl, Will & Grace, Power and Friends, plus a number of blockbuster films like The Avengers, Ghostbusters, Spiderman, I Am Legend and Ted plus so, so, so much more you’ll enjoy this tour a lot; it will be worth your time (2 hours or so, maximum 3) and money, and the variety means there’s something for everyone if you’re travelling as a group!
2. Your Tour Guide is probably a real G!
Our Tour Guide, Amadeo, came with the facts, the tea and the banter about all the locations we were visiting. It really made a difference to have a Tour Guide so full of knowledge about things we genuinely found interesting. He also doubled as the photographer for everybody on the tour – he is the literal reason we were able to do it for the gram, and the blog, and for this reason he deserves all the accolades! We’re sure all the guides are just as great but if you do get Amadeo, you’re in for a treat. Tip him big, and tell him “The Bloggers” from London that did the NYC TV and Movie Tour that one time in May 2019 said “hey, Deo!”
Our quiet, but dependable driver Kim also deserves a mention for his safe driving – thank goodness for someone with the skill to drive in a city as busy as NYC. We had a few taxi drivers during our visit this time around that could have definitely taken a leaf out of Kim’s book!
3. It beats taking the subway!
Even if you did all your research and found a number of filming spots yourself, you’ll be subjecting yourself to navigating the maze that is NYC’s subway system. We complain to no end about the TfL Tube, but believe us – London’s tube system makes a hell of a lot more sense than New York’s, and we think we’ve about 80% mastered it now. You’ll also miss out on your Tour Guide’s narration, and being transported around in a comfortable, air conditioned bus that has WiFi (come on Millennials!) …We know where we would rather be!
After the tour, you’re free to explore the different areas of the city you’ve visited or had your Tour Guide point out to you – on our next NYC visit, we’ll be sure to get to Chelsea Market, the High Line and spend more time in Tribeca – all highlighted to us by Deo. The area where The Friends Apartment was looked super cute, too!
We really enjoyed the TV and Movies tour, but would personally love to see a Coming to America tour! Or a black cinema and TV tour – Luke Cage, Paid in Full, Power, Love & Hip Hop? With food stops along the way? If that becomes a thing, we hope we’ll be the first to know!
When is your next trip to NYC planned? Will you be joining a tour with On Locations Tours? We think you should, but let us know!
By request, we received complimentary tickets to the On Location Tours NYC TV and Movies Tour which were gifted to us in exchange for this blog post.
